LanguageCert published a concordance study with IELTS Academic in October 2024 — 1,008 test takers who sat both exams, equipercentile linking, overall correlation .87. These are its published equivalences, reproduced with the sample size and standard error behind every row, because those are what tell you which rows to trust.

Where the conversion stops being reliable.
There is no IELTS 9.0 equivalent
Not one of the 1,008 candidates scored IELTS 9.0, so the report publishes no LanguageCert range for it. Any chart that shows one has made it up.
The top and per-skill rows are less certain
IELTS 8.5 overall rests on 3 students. Per-skill correlations are .71 to .76, below the overall .87, with larger standard errors. Use those ranges as rough targets.

Concordance scores are not interchangeable. Universities and visa streams decide which tests and scores they accept, so use this chart to set a study target rather than prove eligibility.

What is my IELTS equivalent for a LanguageCert Academic score?
At overall level the official concordance maps LanguageCert 61–66 to IELTS 6.0, 67–72 to IELTS 6.5, 73–80 to IELTS 7.0, 81–87 to IELTS 7.5 and 88–94 to IELTS 8.0. These come from LanguageCert’s own concordance study of 1,008 test takers who sat both exams, with an overall correlation of .87.
Is a LanguageCert score officially accepted instead of IELTS?
That is the receiving institution’s decision, not something a conversion table settles. LanguageCert Academic is Ofqual-regulated, a UKVI-approved Secure English Language Test and accepted by the Australian Department of Home Affairs for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025. But a university or visa stream states which tests it accepts and at what score — check that requirement directly rather than converting a score yourself.
Why does this table show sample sizes and standard errors?
Because they decide how much a row is worth. IELTS 6.0 rests on 225 students; IELTS 8.5 rests on 3, with a standard error of 4.84. Most conversion charts drop those columns and present every row as equally solid, which is exactly where they mislead. A wide range at the top of the scale is not precision you can plan around.
Is there a LanguageCert equivalent of IELTS 9.0?
No. Nobody in the 1,008-candidate study scored IELTS 9.0, so the report publishes no equivalent for it and marks the row not applicable. Any chart showing a LanguageCert score for IELTS 9.0 has invented it.
Are the two scores interchangeable?
No, and the study says so directly: scores linked through concordancing are not expected to be interchangeable. A concordance is a statistical alignment of two different tests measuring overlapping things, not an exchange rate. The report also notes LanguageCert appears more demanding in the objectively marked skills — Listening and Reading — than IELTS.
How reliable is the per-skill conversion compared with the overall one?
Less reliable. The overall correlation is .87, but per skill it is .76 for Reading and .71 for Writing, Listening and Speaking, and the standard errors on the per-skill tables run two to three times those on the overall table. Treat a per-skill equivalent as a wide range and the overall figure as the meaningful number.
