Reading and Listening are two-stage adaptive — everyone sits a router, then a Lower or Upper module depending on how the router went. Writing and Speaking run linear. Items presented is never the same as items scored: tryout items are mixed in and unscored, so never judge a section by percent correct.

Will ScoreFluent give me one TOEFL score or a range?
A range. ETS’s own reliability data puts the standard error of measurement at roughly 0.35 band per section, which works out to about a ±0.7-band 95% confidence interval. A single confident-looking number would be less honest than what the exam’s own statistics support, so ScoreFluent shows a range and does not treat a half-band move between attempts as improvement.
