ScoreFluent
Scoring methodology

How ScoreFluent marks practice answers.

Each exam and task uses its own marking rules. Your ScoreFluent result is practice feedback. It is not an official exam result.

Four skills

Different answers need different marking.

Speaking

Recorded answers are checked against the exam's criteria. These can include content, fluency, pronunciation, language use and task completion.

Writing

Open responses are checked against the task's marking criteria. Published form rules, such as word count, are applied separately.

Reading and listening

Questions with fixed answers use stored answer keys. Rules can include exact matches, partial marks or negative marks.

From answer to report

The marking path, step by step.

  1. Step 1

    Use the right task rules

The selected exam and question type decide which criteria, answer key and score scale apply.

  2. Step 2

    Mark the evidence

Fixed-answer tasks use rules. Open speaking and writing responses use automated analysis against the task criteria.

  3. Step 3

    Build the practice result

ScoreFluent converts the marked evidence into the result format used by that practice task.

  4. Step 4

    Show limits with the result

Estimated scores and unavailable criteria stay labelled, especially where the real exam needs live or human judgement.

How to read a result

A useful estimate is still an estimate.

Official exam providers control their questions, delivery and final scores.

Human judgement can differ

Several official exams use human judgement for speaking or writing. ScoreFluent does not replace those examiners.

Some speaking cannot be copied

Recorded practice cannot fully test a live interview or peer interaction. C1 Advanced recorded speaking is only a practice estimate. It is not a Cambridge English Scale score.

No guaranteed official result

Practice questions and conditions differ from exam day. A ScoreFluent result cannot guarantee your official score.

Evidence standard

What we can support today.

ScoreFluent checks scoring code against fixed internal examples and public marking criteria.

We do not publish an independent study against official exam outcomes today. We therefore describe results as practice scores or estimates.

Official sources

Check the exam provider's marking guide.

These guides explain what the official exam measures. The provider's current guide always takes priority.

Frequently asked questions

About your practice score.

Are ScoreFluent scores official exam scores?

No. They are practice results or estimates. Only the exam provider can issue an official score.

Does ScoreFluent use AI to score every answer?

No. Open speaking and writing responses use automated scoring. Questions with fixed answers are marked against stored answer keys and exam-specific rules.

Does a human examiner mark my ScoreFluent answer?

No. ScoreFluent practice is marked automatically. Exams that use human examiners may judge the same response differently.

Has ScoreFluent scoring been independently validated?

ScoreFluent tests its scoring software against fixed internal examples and official public marking criteria. We do not currently publish an independent validation study against official exam outcomes.

Why can my official result be different?

Official questions, test conditions, exam versions and human judgement can differ. Some live and paired speaking skills also cannot be measured fully from one recorded answer.
