LanguageCert Academic is an English exam from PeopleCert. It tests four skills. You get 0–100 scores and a CEFR level from B1 to C2. LRW and Speaking are booked separately. Results come within five working days after your last part.

You book two parts: LRW (Listening, Reading and Writing) and Speaking. Take them on the same day or up to 14 days apart. Results come within five working days.

Each skill is scored 0–100 on the LanguageCert Global Scale. Your overall score is the average of the four. Every skill counts equally. Fixed scores set your CEFR level.

UK — UKVI SELT
LanguageCert is a PeopleCert brand. Academic is regulated by Ofqual and approved as a UKVI Secure English Language Test. It is taken under SELT rules where the visa needs it.
Australia — Home Affairs accepted
The Department of Home Affairs accepts LanguageCert Academic for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025. Scores needed depend on the visa English level. Competent English needs at least 57 Listening, 60 Reading, 64 Writing and 70 Speaking.
Universities
Many universities accept it. Most undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses ask for B2 (60–74). Each university sets its own minimums, including scores for each skill. Check the course page.

Results within five working days
The five days start after your last part. Take LRW and Speaking on the same day or within 14 days.
Check the receiver’s validity rule
The organisation that gets your result decides how recent it must be. Check this before you use an older score.
Three attempts, then a wait
You can take it three times with no waiting time. After the third attempt, wait 90 days unless LanguageCert allows an exemption. You pay for each sitting.

How long is LanguageCert Academic and how is it booked?
About 154 minutes of testing: Listening about 40 minutes, Reading 50 minutes, Writing 50 minutes and Speaking about 14 minutes. You book two parts: LRW (Listening, Reading and Writing) and Speaking. Take them on the same day or within 14 days.
What score do I need, and how does the scale work?
Each skill is scored 0–100 on the LanguageCert Global Scale. Your overall score is the average of the four skills. Every skill counts equally. CEFR levels are fixed: 40–59 is B1, 60–74 is B2, 75–89 is C1 and 90–100 is C2. Academic reports B1 to C2, so you do not choose a level when you book.
Is LanguageCert Academic accepted for UK and Australian visas?
Yes. It is regulated by Ofqual and approved by UKVI as a Secure English Language Test (see the gov.uk approved SELT list). The Australian Department of Home Affairs accepts it for tests taken on or after 7 August 2025. Score levels depend on the visa. Check the score your university or visa needs before you book.
How does a LanguageCert score compare to IELTS?
LanguageCert published a study in October 2024 with 1,008 test takers who sat both exams (correlation .87). Overall, IELTS 6.0 is 61–66, IELTS 6.5 is 67–72, IELTS 7.0 is 73–80 and IELTS 7.5 is 81–87. The report says LanguageCert Listening and Reading are a little harder than IELTS at the top end.
Does the listening audio really play twice?
Yes. Every recording plays twice. Use the first play for the main idea. Use the second play for the details. In Part 3 you get 30 seconds to look at the note pad. In Part 4 you get one minute to read the questions.
How are Writing and Speaking marked?
Computers mark Listening and Reading. Humans mark Writing and Speaking using published criteria. Two raters mark separately and cannot see each other's marks. A senior examiner decides if they disagree. Writing has four criteria, each scored 0–8 per task. Speaking has five criteria, each scored 0–8. Task Fulfilment and Communicative Effect count double.
