Cambridge C1 Advanced

A C1 Advanced practice test that fits the real format.

Free C1 Advanced practice exists: Cambridge English publishes digital and paper sample tests, and you should start there. This page lists the official material, what a full sitting of about 3 hours 55 minutes contains, and how ScoreFluent’s mock tests fit in.

Checked 15 and 16 October 2026 against Cambridge English. ScoreFluent is not affiliated with Cambridge University Press & Assessment.

Where can I find a free C1 Advanced practice test?

The test maker’s own free material is where preparation should begin:

  • C1 Advanced preparation — free digital sample tests for Listening, Reading and Use of English, and Writing, and two paper-based sample papers. The Speaking samples are shared by both formats.
  • C1 Advanced Handbook for teachers (PDF) — two sample papers for each paper, answer keys for Reading and Use of English and Listening, the assessment scales, and example Writing answers.
  • Converting practice test scores (PDF) — how to turn marks on official practice tests into Cambridge English Scale scores.

The preparation page also links examiner comments for three sample Speaking tests. Before you sit a sample, read the C1 Advanced format guide and how C1 Advanced is scored so you can read your own result honestly.

The shape of a full test

What does a full C1 Advanced test contain?

PaperTimeStructureMarking
Reading and Use of English90 min8 parts, 56 questions, 78 marksReported as two scores
Writing90 min2 answers of 220–260 words: a compulsory essay, then one task from threeTrained examiners
ListeningAbout 40 min4 parts, 30 questions, every recording heard twiceOne mark per question
Speaking15 min per pair (23 for three)4 parts, face to face with another candidate and two examinersTwo examiners

Cambridge gives the total as approximately 3 hours 55 minutes. The format is the same on computer and on paper. Go deeper on each paper: Reading and Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

What untimed practice cannot teach

The details that make it feel like the real thing.

These come from Cambridge’s handbook and format pages. Most practice material reproduces the questions and skips the conditions.

One 90-minute clock for 78 marks

Reading and Use of English is one paper, and its parts are worth 1 or 2 marks a question. Cambridge gives no time for each part, so you need your own plan and you should rehearse it.

Listening plays twice, then you check

Every part is heard twice. The approximately 40 minutes includes 2 minutes to check your answers on the digital test, or 5 minutes to copy them onto the answer sheet on paper.

Writing has no spare time

The 90 minutes is designed for brief plans and two responses, not for fair copies or counting words. The digital test shows a running word count; on paper you write on lined answer sheets.

Speaking needs another person

You are usually paired with another candidate. Part 3 is a conversation, and in Part 2 you comment on your partner’s pictures for about 30 seconds. Practising alone rehearses your content, not the exchange.

Listening mock testOne paper of about 40 minutes, every recording played twice10 credits
Writing mock testOne 90-minute paper with both parts10 credits

In our full mock test the papers run in the order Writing, Reading and Use of English, Listening, Speaking. Cambridge schedules the papers at your centre, so your real order may differ. Speaking is part of the full mock test only; there is no separate Speaking mock test. Results show five paper scores and an overall score on the Cambridge English Scale.

The 40 free credits a new account starts with cover one full mock test. Our Speaking is solo practice with scripted examiner questions and a scripted partner, so its estimate is provisional and cannot reflect Interactive Communication or Global Achievement. Credit costs are as of 15 October 2026; check pricing for the current figures.

How to practise

How should I use a practice test?

Sit one official sample under exam conditions first

Reading and Use of English for 90 minutes, Writing for 90, Listening in one go. It shows which paper deserves your weeks.

Score each paper separately

Reading, Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking each count for one fifth of your overall score. A paper that scores low costs the same whichever one it is.

Study the official Writing answers

The handbook’s example answers come with examiner commentary on each criterion. Mark your own draft against the same four criteria before you compare.

Practise Speaking with a person

Time one minute for the long turn, then rehearse Part 3 with a partner who answers back. Rate yourself on the five published criteria, not on how many ideas you listed.

FAQ

C1 Advanced practice test questions, answered.

Where can I find a free C1 Advanced practice test?

Start with Cambridge English. Its preparation page links free digital sample tests for Listening, Reading and Use of English, and Writing, plus two free paper-based sample papers. The Speaking samples are the same for the digital and paper tests.

How long is a full C1 Advanced test?

Cambridge’s handbook gives a total of approximately 3 hours 55 minutes. That is Reading and Use of English 90 minutes, Writing 90 minutes, Listening about 40 minutes and Speaking 15 minutes for a pair.

Is the official sample test the same as the real test?

It shows the format and task types, which is its job. Cambridge says the marks needed for a given score vary from test to test, so use a sample to learn the timing and format, not to forecast an exact result.

How do I score my own C1 Advanced practice test?

Mark each paper out of its own total: 50 for Reading, 28 for Use of English, 40 for Writing, 30 for Listening and 75 for Speaking. Cambridge’s guide then gives four anchor points per paper for converting marks on official practice tests, which our scoring page sets out.

Does ScoreFluent have a C1 Advanced mock test?

Yes. ScoreFluent has a full C1 Advanced mock test that includes Speaking, plus separate mock tests for Reading and Use of English, Listening and Writing. Results are practice estimates, not official Cambridge scores.

How much does a C1 Advanced mock test cost on ScoreFluent?

A full mock test costs 40 credits, the same as the free credits a new account starts with. At the time of writing, each of the three section mock tests costs 10 credits. Credits never expire and there is no subscription.

Is Speaking in the ScoreFluent mock test the same as the real Speaking test?

No. You practise alone, with scripted examiner questions and a scripted partner, so the real paired exchange with two examiners is not reproduced. Our Speaking score is a provisional solo practice estimate.

Is C1 Advanced practice free on ScoreFluent?

Reading and listening practice is free within daily limits. Speaking and writing examiner reports use credits: most cost 8 credits and an essay costs 10.
