An IELTS practice test that fits the real format.
IELTS publishes free sample questions and runs a free in-person Trial Test, and you should start there. This page lists that official material, what a full IELTS test contains, and what is in ScoreFluent’s four-skill IELTS mock test.
Checked 15 and 16 October 2026 against ielts.org. ScoreFluent is not affiliated with IELTS.
Where can I find a free IELTS practice test? Start with IELTS.
ScoreFluent is an independent practice platform, not affiliated with or endorsed by IELTS, the British Council, IDP IELTS or Cambridge University Press & Assessment. The honest advice is that the test owners’ free material is where preparation should begin:
- IELTS Academic sample test questions and General Training sample test questions — official practice and sample questions for all four skills. The Academic page includes Listening answer keys and transcripts, Writing example responses with band scores and examiner comments, and a Speaking sample tasks PDF.
- IELTS’s computer-delivered practice experience on the same pages shows how the test looks on screen. IELTS says these practice tests are not timed.
- IELTS Trial Test — a free familiarisation test at participating official locations, for Listening, Reading and Writing under timed conditions, marked by an official examiner. Results arrive in 13 days, and IELTS says Trial Test scores are not official.
Before sitting any of these, read the IELTS Academic and General Training guide so nothing in the format surprises you, and how IELTS is scored so you can read your own result honestly.
What does a full IELTS test contain, and how long is it?
| Section | Time | Structure | Marking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listening | About 30 min | 40 questions in 4 parts, each recording played once | One mark per correct answer |
| Reading | 60 min | 40 questions in 3 sections | One mark per correct answer |
| Writing | 60 min | 2 tasks: at least 150 words, then at least 250 words | Examiners; Task 2 counts twice |
| Speaking | 11–14 min | 3 parts: interview, long turn, discussion | Examiners |
IELTS gives the total test time for IELTS Academic as 2 hours and 45 minutes. Source: IELTS Academic test, checked 15 and 16 October 2026. Each section has its own page here: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
What is in the ScoreFluent IELTS mock test?
Once you have worked through the official samples, ScoreFluent gives you a full four-skill sitting you can mark. Academic and General Training each have their own mock test. The questions are written for practice and are not taken from past IELTS papers.
| Section | Academic mock test | General Training mock test |
|---|---|---|
| Listening | Four parts of 10 items, 40 in all; each recording plays once | The same format |
| Reading | Three passages, 40 items (13, 13 and 14 across the passages) | Three sections, 40 items (14, 13 and 13), built to the General Training Reading format |
| Writing | Task 1 on a chart, graph, process or map, then a Task 2 essay | Task 1 letter, then a Task 2 essay |
| Speaking | Parts 1, 2 and 3, recorded | The same format |
Timing
Listening, Reading and Writing share one 150-minute clock, and Speaking is timed part by part. The timed sections add up to about 163 minutes. Treat it as one sitting, not four evenings.
Scoring
Reading and Listening count each item as one mark and are anchored to IELTS’s published averages. Writing counts Task 2 twice. The Speaking estimate is provisional: the grader has not been calibrated against examiner-marked recordings. All results are practice estimates.
Scope today
As of 15 October 2026 there is one full mock test for each version. There are no section-only IELTS mock tests and no second set yet, so use task practice for single sections.
How many credits does the IELTS mock test cost?
A full mock test costs 40 credits, and that covers the marking of every answer, including Writing and Speaking. New accounts start with 40 free credits, which is enough for one full mock test. Credits never expire and there is no subscription.
Outside mock tests, Reading and Listening practice is free to start with a daily limit, and Writing and Speaking reports cost credits per answer. The pricing page has the current prices, and the mock tests overview lists the mock tests for every exam.
How should I use a practice test?
The technique below is ours, not IELTS’s.
Sit one full test under exam conditions first
Listening, Reading and Writing back to back, then Speaking, without pausing. It shows which section to spend your weeks on, and whether you run out of time in Reading or in Task 2.
Never rewind Listening
IELTS plays each recording once, so a practice routine that lets you replay it flatters your score. If you miss an answer, mark it and keep going, exactly as you must on the day.
Score each section its own way
Count Listening and Reading marks out of 40 and compare them with IELTS’s published average marks. Judge Writing and Speaking against the four public criteria. Then average the four bands with IELTS’s rounding rule. The scoring page shows all three steps.
Review by cause, not by score
For every lost mark, write down why: not heard, misspelt, over the word limit, task not answered, or unclear delivery. The most common cause across two tests is what to practise next.
Every question type has its own guide on the IELTS question-type index.
IELTS practice-test questions, answered.
Where can I find a free IELTS practice test?
Start with IELTS itself. Its Academic and General Training sample-test pages offer free official practice and sample questions, including Listening answer keys and transcripts, Writing example responses with band scores and examiner comments, and Speaking sample tasks.
Are the official IELTS practice materials timed?
IELTS says its computer-delivered practice experience is not timed, and that the timer, highlighting and notes functions behave differently from the live test. Its sample-question pages do say you can test yourself under timed conditions, so set your own clock, or use the IELTS Trial Test or a mock test.
What is the IELTS Trial Test?
It is a free familiarisation test at participating official locations, for Listening, Reading and Writing, in both Academic and General Training. An official examiner marks it and results arrive in 13 days, but IELTS says Trial Test scores are not official and cannot be used for academic, immigration or work purposes.
How long is a full IELTS test?
IELTS gives the total test time for IELTS Academic as 2 hours and 45 minutes: Listening about 30 minutes, Reading 60, Writing 60 and Speaking 11–14. Check your own schedule with your test centre.
What is in the ScoreFluent IELTS mock test?
A full four-skill sitting with four Listening parts of 10 items, three Reading passages with 40 items, Writing Tasks 1 and 2, and Speaking Parts 1 to 3. Listening, Reading and Writing share one 150-minute clock, and Speaking is timed part by part.
How much does the ScoreFluent IELTS mock test cost?
A full mock test costs 40 credits, which covers the marking of every answer including Writing and Speaking. New accounts start with 40 free credits, enough for one full mock test, and credits never expire. There is no subscription.
Is there a General Training IELTS mock test on ScoreFluent?
Yes. IELTS Academic and General Training each have their own full mock test at the same price, built to each version’s Reading and Writing Task 1 format. Listening and Speaking follow the format both versions share.
Are there section-only IELTS mock tests or more than one mock test set?
Not yet. As of 15 October 2026 ScoreFluent has one full mock test for Academic and one for General Training, and no section-only IELTS mock tests. For single sections, use the task practice, where Reading and Listening are free to start with a daily limit.
Are the ScoreFluent mock test questions real IELTS questions?
No. They are written for practice and are not taken from past IELTS papers. ScoreFluent is not affiliated with IELTS, so use IELTS’s own free samples to see real tasks.
How accurate is the band I get from a ScoreFluent mock test?
It is a practice estimate, not an official result. Reading and Listening are scored by item and anchored to IELTS’s published average marks, Writing weighs Task 2 twice, and the Speaking estimate is provisional because the grader has not been calibrated against examiner-marked recordings.
Exam details change. If a decision hangs on a detail here, check it against the official IELTS preparation pages first; they outrank this page.
