Every task type, and what it actually scores.
LanguageCert Academic Speaking and Writing are built from separate parts, each assessed on its own. These guides cover what each part asks you to do, how it is assessed, where candidates lose marks, and how to practise it.
Speaking
LanguageCert Academic Speaking Part 1: how the interview questions work
Speaking Part 1 opens the LanguageCert Academic test: you give and spell your name, then answer up to five questions on different topics with no preparation time. How it runs, how to answer, and practice items.
LanguageCert Academic Speaking Part 2: how the role plays work
Speaking Part 2 is two or three short role plays set in university life. You respond to one and start another yourself. How it runs, how to open a conversation, how to match register, and practice items.
LanguageCert Academic Speaking Part 3: read aloud, then answer questions
Speaking Part 3 gives you 20 seconds to look at a short academic passage, then you read it aloud and answer follow-up questions. What to do in the 20 seconds, how to read it, and practice passages.
LanguageCert Academic Speaking Part 4: the presentation from a chart
Speaking Part 4 gives you one minute to prepare notes on a chart, up to two minutes to present it, then follow-up questions. How to use the minute, structure the talk, answer follow-ups, and practice charts.
Writing
LanguageCert Academic Writing Part 1: how to write the report from a chart
Writing Part 1 asks for a formal report, article or argument of 150 to 200 words from a chart or other input. How to read the input, plan, structure, hedge predictions, and practise with bank prompts.
LanguageCert Academic Writing Part 2: how to write the discursive essay
Writing Part 2 asks for a formal discursive essay of about 250 words on a statement, ending with your own opinion. How to plan, structure both views, develop ideas, and practise with bank statements.
Reading about it only gets you so far.
