What task types are in the new TOEFL Listening section?
Four: Listen and Choose a Response, Listen to a Conversation, Listen to an Announcement, and Listen to an Academic Talk. All four carry new official ETS names introduced with the 2026 redesign.
Is TOEFL Listening adaptive?
Yes — like Reading, it is two-stage adaptive (MST). A router section decides whether the second stage is the Lower or Upper module. Listening presents 47 items but only 35 are scored, with up to 12 unscored tryout items mixed in — so a percentage of items seen is not the same as your scored percentage.
What accents does TOEFL Listening use?
Three accent regions: North American, UK and Australian. Recordings play once, and every audio input carries a visual of the speaker or speakers.
How is TOEFL Listening scored?
One point per correct answer, no negative marking, 100% rule-based — no AI or model is involved. As with Reading, ETS does not publish a raw-to-band conversion, so ScoreFluent does not invent one.
How long is the TOEFL Listening section?
29 minutes, running second in the exam order — right after Reading.
