Bands 3 and below have no published legacy row — ETS’s institutions score-scale page only lists anchors from band 3.5 up. Do not extrapolate a legacy figure below 58; nothing in this table implies one exists.

The legacy 0–120 figure exists only from 21 January 2026 to January 2028. After that, only the 1–6 band scale is reported — there is no plan to keep the legacy column running.
Overall-only
The legacy conversion is a single overall number, never a per-section score. A page or tool that quotes a legacy Reading or Speaking score for the 2026 exam is not reflecting anything ETS publishes.
Is 100 still good?
A legacy 100 sits above the band-5 threshold (95+ concords to roughly band 5, CEFR C1) — still a strong result. See the full context on what changed in 2026.

How do I convert my new TOEFL band to the old 0–120 scale?
Use the overall column in the table above — it is ETS’s own published concordance. It only runs from band 3.5 upward; bands below that have no legacy row, because ETS does not publish one that low. The legacy figure is overall only — there is no published per-section 0–120 conversion for the 2026 exam.
Why don’t bands 3 and below have a legacy score?
Because ETS’s own institutions score-scale page only publishes legacy anchors from band 3.5 up. Any legacy number quoted for band 3 or lower is not something ETS has released — treat it as invented and don’t rely on it.
Is the 0–120 legacy score going away?
Yes. It is dual-reported alongside the primary 1–6 band scale from 21 January 2026 to January 2028 only, then dropped entirely. Treat it as a transition aid, not a permanent second scale.
What CEFR level is TOEFL band 4?
B2. The CEFR mapping is identical across all four sections and the overall score: band 6 is C2, 5–5.5 is C1, 4–4.5 is B2, 3–3.5 is B1, 2–2.5 is A2, and 1–1.5 is A1.
Is 100 on the old scale still a good TOEFL score?
On the legacy scale, 95+ concords to roughly band 5 overall (CEFR C1) on the new scale — so a legacy 100 sits comfortably above the band-5 threshold. But that mapping is overall-only and transition-only; once January 2028 passes, only the band score exists, so it’s worth getting comfortable reading the new scale directly rather than mentally converting back.
