CELPIP-General

A CELPIP practice test that fits the real format.

Free CELPIP practice exists: CELPIP publishes free practice tests and resources, and you should start there. This page lists the official material, what CELPIP-General contains section by section, and how to use practice well.

Use these first

The official material is free — start there.

ScoreFluent is an independent practice platform, not affiliated with or endorsed by Paragon Testing Enterprises or CELPIP. The honest advice is that the test provider’s own free material is where preparation should begin:

Exam details change — the test provider revises its documents during the year. If a decision hangs on a detail here, check it against the official pages above first; they outrank this page. This page covers CELPIP-General, the four-skill test, not CELPIP-General LS, which tests listening and speaking only.

Before sitting a practice test, read the CELPIP-General format guide so nothing in it surprises you, and how CELPIP is scored so you can read your own result honestly.

The shape of a full test

Reading has Correspondence (11), Apply a Diagram (8), Information (9) and Viewpoints (10). Under 2 hours 50 minutes, one sitting, so a full practice run should be one block.

What untimed practice cannot teach

The details that make it feel like the real thing.

A computer, at an official test centre

CELPIP is delivered on a computer in one sitting. Typing, wearing a headset and holding focus on a screen are part of the test, so practise on a computer with headphones rather than on paper.

Some Listening and Reading items do not count

Both sections can contain unscored test-development questions, and you cannot tell which they are. Treat every item as live and answer them all.

Speaking has no interviewer

You reply to on-screen prompts and your recording is rated by trained raters. Each task has its own preparation and recording clock, so practise with a timer and stop when the clock does.

Writing is two tasks on two clocks

An email in 27 minutes, then responses to survey questions in 26. CELPIP’s preparation guidance puts each response at 150–200 words, so rehearse finishing a complete answer in that range.

Practice on ScoreFluent

Twenty task types, across all four skills.

Once you have worked through the official practice tests, ScoreFluent gives you more questions in the same shapes. CELPIP-General practice is free to start, and its results are practice estimates, not official CELPIP levels.

How to practise

Prepare for the task, not just the topic.

Writing

Identify the recipient, purpose and requested points before drafting. Give each point space, then check tone, paragraph order and sentence accuracy.

Speaking

Record an answer to a practical scenario and listen back for a clear position, relevant reasons and a completed response. Avoid filling the time with an introduction that could fit any question.

Reading and listening

After each practice item, find the exact words or inference that support the answer. For diagrams, practise moving between the visual and the written situation without ignoring constraints. Answer every item.

Keep the four skills separate

CELPIP reports a level for each skill, and receiving organisations often set a minimum per skill. Track each skill against its own target rather than an average.

FAQ

CELPIP practice-test questions, answered.

Where can I find a free CELPIP practice test?

Start with CELPIP itself. Its free practice tests page and free resources page are the official routes, and its test-taker guidebook says the recommended learning path includes two free practice tests. A free online practice test is also offered when you create a CELPIP account.

Is the free CELPIP practice test the same as the real test?

It shows you the format and the kinds of task, which is its job. Form-specific details such as item difficulty are not public, so use a practice test for familiarity and timing rather than as a precise predictor of your level.

How long is CELPIP-General?

CELPIP-General is delivered on a computer in one sitting. By section: Listening 46–55 minutes, Reading 43–56, Writing 53 and Speaking 15. Some Listening and Reading items are unscored test-development questions that you cannot identify.

Is CELPIP Speaking a live interview?

No. You give eight recorded replies to on-screen prompts, each with its own preparation and recording time, and trained raters rate them afterwards. There is no examiner to talk to, so practise speaking aloud against a timer.

Does CELPIP have an essay?

Not in the usual sense. The Writing section is an email and a response to survey questions. Practise those task instructions rather than an academic essay format.

How do I score my own CELPIP practice test?

Listening and Reading are checked against an answer key, but CELPIP’s published raw-count ranges for each level are approximate and overlap, so there is no exact conversion from a raw score. For Writing and Speaking, check yourself against the four published criteria on the Scoring page, and ask whether your answer did everything the task asked.

Does ScoreFluent offer CELPIP-General practice?

Yes, free to start. ScoreFluent has 20 CELPIP-General task types across reading, listening, writing and speaking. Results are practice estimates, not official CELPIP levels, and ScoreFluent is not affiliated with Paragon Testing Enterprises.
