🎯

In short

  • Michigan Language Assessment's handbook describes MET Digital Sample Tests for all four skills and a free resource library. Start there for format.
  • Third-party options differ on full-length test volume, Writing and Speaking scoring, and which version of the MET they describe.
  • MockMaster's own MET page describes a 90-minute test of Grammar, Listening and Reading. Michigan's handbook describes a 155-minute, four-section test.
  • ScoreFluent has 13 MET task types, a full mock test and four section mock tests, with credits for reports and no subscription. Others list more full-length tests than our one full mock test, so compare current counts on each provider's site.

MET practice is thinly covered online. Most large prep sites cover IELTS, PTE or TOEFL first. This page compares what each option publishes about MET practice today.

ScoreFluent wrote this page, and we are one of the options compared, so treat our judgements as the view of one provider. ScoreFluent is not affiliated with Michigan Language Assessment. Every fact about another provider links to that provider's own page and was checked on 15 or 16 October 2026. Figures a provider states about itself, such as question and mock test counts, are labelled as vendor claims. We read public pages. We did not buy or test any rival's paid tier.

How did we compare MET practice platforms?

  • Which version of MET it models. The current four-section test, or something shorter.
  • Writing and Speaking. Whether the page describes scored feedback, and whether it calls the score an estimate.
  • Full-length practice. How many complete tests, and what you can try free.
  • Access terms. Free, credits, or a plan that expires on a clock.
  • Coaching. Whether anything tells you what to practise next.

What does the real MET look like, and why does it matter for practice?

Michigan's MET Test Taker Handbook (July 2025) describes a 155-minute test. Writing takes 45 minutes in two parts. Listening takes 35 minutes and has 50 questions. Reading takes 65 minutes and has 50 questions. Speaking takes 10 minutes and has five recorded tasks. Listening and Reading are multiple choice, and certified raters score Writing and Speaking.

Two practical points follow. Section lengths and the clock shape what a practice test rehearses, so compare each platform's description with the handbook. And because Speaking is recorded rather than live, recorded practice against a timer is a close match to delivery. Our MET format guide and MET scoring guide cover the detail. Checked 15 and 16 October 2026.

What does Michigan's own MET practice material include?

The handbook says there are "many free preparation resources". It lists a free resource library (What is MET?, Planning for MET and a MET Study Guide), skill overview videos and reference guides for each of the four skills. It says the "MET Digital Sample Tests feature all four skills and offer test takers a chance to become familiar with the test format and item types". It also says official Practice Test Books are "available for purchase": the Official MET Practice Test Book with answers for self-study, and a Classroom Edition.

Michigan's 2026 Writing Resource Pack explains the Writing rating scale and includes example prompts and four example responses to both tasks, with examiner comments. The Speaking Resource Pack explains the five tasks and the Speaking rating scale. We could not load Michigan's web pages from our review tool, so we rely here on the handbook and the two packs.

Concession. These are the only materials written by the test maker, and the Writing pack shows what each rating level looks like. Use them before you pay for anything. A sample test cannot mark your Writing or Speaking for you.

What does OpenExamPrep offer for MET?

OpenExamPrep's MET page offers "129+" free practice questions (a vendor figure) with explanations, 50 flashcards and no registration or credit card. It labels itself "Independent prep · Not endorsed". Its key-facts block gives 155 minutes and a 0 to 80 section scale, which matches Michigan's handbook. The questions shown on the page are multiple choice. The page does not describe scored Speaking or Writing practice.

Consider it if you want free multiple-choice grammar and reading checks and nothing more.

Checked 15 and 16 October 2026.

What does 7ESL offer for MET?

7ESL's MET page lists four MET practice tests, each about 155 minutes with Writing, Listening, Reading and Speaking papers. It says "The first 2 tests are free; the other 2 come with 7ESL Pro." It describes "instant 0–80 estimates for Listening and Reading, and model answers at every level". The page also says Writing and Speaking come with model answers and C1 to A2 samples, and that Pro members can ask an "AI examiner" for a practice estimate on the five MET writing criteria or the three speaking criteria. The page shows no price for Pro.

Concession. 7ESL lists more full-length MET tests than ScoreFluent's one full mock test, and two of them are free. Consider it if you want timed, full-length practice with model answers at each level.

Checked 15 and 16 October 2026.

What does MockMaster offer for MET?

MockMaster is run by One Australia Group, an Australian coaching business. Its MET practice is described on three pages.

  • The free MET mock test page says "Free · Unlimited · AI-scored instantly" and describes a full four-skill mock test of about 155 minutes. Its section times are 30 minutes of Listening, 41 of Reading, 42 of Writing and 42 of Speaking, which add up to 155. For comparison, Michigan's handbook lists Listening 35, Reading 65, Writing 45 and Speaking 10 minutes.
  • MockMaster's own MET page offers "1 Full Michigan Mocks — Free", with Grammar, Listening and Reading at 30 questions each, and Writing and Speaking marked "Pro plan". It describes "90 min" and a score "out of 100" for the "shorter MTELP version", and says it was last reviewed in July 2025. Michigan's handbook describes Listening and Reading at 50 questions each in a 155-minute, four-section test.
  • The pricing page lists 25 MET mock tests (a vendor claim): A$69 for 30 days, A$99 for 60 days, or A$499 for 30 days of live coaching including 30 days of portal access. It says "Your first mock is on us."

Format as described. MockMaster's free page describes a four-skill test of about 155 minutes, and its own MET page describes a 90-minute test of Grammar, Listening and Reading. Michigan's handbook describes a 155-minute, four-section test, so you can compare each with the real format.

Concession. MockMaster lists 25 MET mock tests (a vendor claim) and sells short 30-day and 60-day plans, which suits a last-month sprint.

Checked 15 and 16 October 2026.

What does ScoreFluent offer for MET?

  • Coverage. 13 MET task types across reading, listening, writing and speaking, plus a full mock test and four section mock tests. See the MET task types, for example Speaking Task 1, describe a picture, and our MET practice test guide.
  • Free and paid. Reading and listening practice is free within a daily limit. Speaking and writing answers get an examiner report bought with credits. The pricing page lists most reports at 8 credits and essays at 10, and a full mock test at 40 credits. Credits never expire and there is no subscription. New accounts get 40 free credits.
  • Coaching. AI tutor Flo uses your history to suggest what to practise next.
  • Honest labels. Certified raters score the real Writing and Speaking. Our results are practice estimates that show where you stand, not official MET scores.

Concessions. We are new. 7ESL lists four full-length tests and MockMaster lists 25 MET mock tests (its own figure), against our one full mock test and four section mock tests. If volume is your main criterion, compare the current counts on each provider's site. Our items are written by us, so for authentic wording and format, Michigan's sample tests lead.

How should you combine them?

  1. Take Michigan's digital sample test once, under timed conditions, to learn the format.
  2. Read the Writing and Speaking resource packs to understand the rating scales.
  3. Use one scored platform for Writing and Speaking feedback, and treat its score as an estimate.
  4. Use free question banks for grammar and reading between sessions.

Our other platform roundups follow the same method: see LanguageCert practice platforms and TOEFL practice platforms. If you are still choosing between tests, see MET vs TOEFL.

What should you check before paying for MET practice?

  • Does the page describe the current 155-minute, four-section MET, with 50 questions each in Listening and Reading?
  • Are Writing and Speaking scored, and does the platform call the result an estimate?
  • Does access expire on a clock, or do you keep what you bought?
  • Do the free allowance and price on the provider's pages match what you see at sign-up?
  • Does it publish evidence behind any accuracy claim? None of the providers we checked did.

You can start practising MET free with 40 free credits, or read how MET is scored first.

ScoreFluent is one of the options compared here, so weigh our view accordingly.

Is there free official MET practice?

How much does MET practice cost?
